Touring

The beautiful nature of Aegialia invites you to discover it!

Aegialia is a stunning region laced with scenic routes meandering through olive groves and vineyards, next to rivers and lakes, and alongside steep gorges and Natura protected areas. Nature trails and routes wind through verdant slopes plunging into the sea and pristine upland forests overlooking the Gulf of Corinth and the distant ranges of Central Greece.

An inviting and rewarding natural wonder, Aegialia is also sprinkled with quaint towns and villages, such as Zarouchla, with its evocative towers and stone-built mansions, Monastiri, with its fascinating legends and age-old traditions, and Solos, an idyllic and historic mountain settlement that provided the ideal setting for Golfo, Greek cinema’s first silent movie.

The mystical Styx waterfall in Krathi is also worth a visit. Here, according to Greek mythology, sea-goddess Thetis dipped the body of her son Achilles into the miracle-working stygian waters to make him invulnerable, neglecting however his heel.

The famed Vouraikos River Gorge, a natural marvel that has been designated as a national park, can be reached in less than an hour’s drive from the hotel.  To fully appreciate the site, step aboard Odontotos, the rack-and-pinion narrow-gauge railway that connects the coastal town of Diakofto with mountainous Kalavryta. Crawling through cramped tunnels and over stone bridges, and winding its way next to centuries-old monastic vineyards, cascading waterfalls, and precipitous cliffs, Odontotos offers one of the world’s most fascinating railroad experiences!

Not far from Kalavryta, the Cave of Lakes (photo above) is a natural wonder featuring magnificent stalactites, labyrinthine corridors, mysterious arcades, and an elaborate network of subterranean caverns and lakes.

11 Suites is also a good starting point to explore the rest of the Peloponnese, an ancient land that allures travelers with its stunning array of archaeological sites and world heritage treasures. Day trips may include Mycenae, the gold-rich Achaean stronghold immortalized in the Homeric epics, Epidaurus, the ancient sanctuary celebrated for its astonishingly well preserved ancient theater, and Olympia, the world-famous cradle of the Olympic Games.
